Meet the Artist: Lauren Barksdale Hill

For Lauren Barksdale Hill, creativity started early. Growing up in Baton Rouge, she spent countless hours in her grandmother’s art studio, where she was introduced to everything from oil painting and pastels to watercolor and still-life drawing. Her grandmother’s free-spirited approach to creativity left a lasting impression and helped shape Lauren’s lifelong love of art.

Lauren went on to graduate from LSU with a degree in Fine Art, concentrating in graphic design, along with a degree in business. Today, she primarily works in acrylics on canvas, creating artwork inspired by the beauty and character of the South. Her collections feature Louisiana oak trees, marshes, swamps, and familiar landscapes that evoke a sense of home.

Her paintings are known for their soothing color palettes and serene, calming quality.
Whether capturing a favorite Southern scene or creating a commissioned piece for someone who has moved away, Lauren’s goal is to create artwork that brings a sense of place and comfort into a home.

Lauren has been part of The Foyer for about a year and a half and loves being surrounded by such a welcoming community of artists, designers, and shoppers. She also operates her own Baton Rouge art shop, where she displays her work and continues to create from her studio.
